What is Purple for Change?
Purple for Change is a global call to action demanding an end to domestic violence, sexual assault, and systemic gender-based violence. The color purple represents dignity, survivor resilience, and an unwavering promise that no person should live in fear in their own home.
The History & Global Impact
Originating from the women's suffrage movement where purple stood for dignity and justice, the purple ribbon became the universal emblem against domestic abuse in the late 1970s. In South Africa—facing one of the highest rates of gender-based violence in the world—the movement is not an annual calendar event; it is an urgent, everyday fight for life and safety.
